Consumer Rights

It’s essential to understand your rights when making funeral arrangements, and we’re here to ensure that you’re informed and empowered throughout the process.

According to a ruling by the Federal Trade Commission in 1994, funeral homes cannot refuse to receive a casket you have purchased elsewhere. Furthermore, they are prohibited from charging you a fee to handle it or penalizing you financially in any way. This means that you have the right to choose a casket from any source, and the funeral home must treat you equally regardless of where you made the purchase.

In accordance with federal law, you MUST be provided with a general price list before you begin making funeral arrangements. This price list must include the individual prices for all basic services and fees charged by the funeral home. Additionally, you MUST be shown a casket price list before discussing casket selection. It’s important to note that these prices cannot be changed or altered to penalize you for purchasing your casket elsewhere.

While there may be a non-declinable fee that must be accepted, you have the right to select or omit any item on the general price list. Knowing your rights under the law empowers you to make informed decisions and ensures that you receive fair treatment throughout the funeral planning process.

At Caskets Northwest, we are committed to upholding your rights as a consumer and providing you with the highest level of service and transparency.
